Providing Solutions to High-Tech Problems

Gordon Hatchell and Associates is a solution provider who has delivered products to the DOD, the commercial industry, and several universities. Our major strength is in designing and developing creative methods to find solutions for our clients’ unique operating requirements. Samples of these solutions are:

  • Conductive EMI/EMP shielding coatings, conformal antennas, and power grid and critical infrastructure shielding of both civilian and DOD facilities
  • Corrosion and coating control solutions for fuel distribution, storage, and refining facilities as well as for ships and aircraft
  • Specialized coatings for other types of industry

We also have extensive experience working with secure information facilities to reduce radio frequencies going in and out of the location. Our work in preventing potential hacks and virus distribution through RFs would be of great interest to gaming, banking, and other related industries.

EMI/EMP and Directed Energy

Our firm provides cost-effective EMI, EMP, and directed energy protection solutions to several clients. We have experience working with data centers, commercial facilities, as well as state and federal agencies, including the DOD. Our team evaluates the vulnerability and recommends solutions using our knowledge of coatings.

Additionally, we use exclusive materials with exposure and adhesive properties to meet the life cycle criteria on concrete, metals, composites, and other substrates. We provide solutions for:

  • Buildings
  • Trailers
  • Tents
  • Portable Structures.
  • Marine Ships and Crafts.

Antennas

We have experience developing conformal antennas that are based on military specification resins, polymers, conductive properties, ground planes, and dielectric layers. Our team is familiar with radars, antennas, and different requirements for low and high-frequency shielding abatement. The antennas are installed and tested on numerous materials and vehicles including:

  • Drone Composites
  • Metal and Composite Ship Superstructures
  • Small Combatant Craft
  • Marine Corps Vehicles
  • Composite Wings
  • Mobile Components for GPS.
  • Hatches
  • Ballistic Panels
  • Concrete
  • Aluminum
  • Wood
  • Balloon Fabric
  • etc.

Case Study On Custom Antenna Development

Our team has electromagnetic antenna design experience in developing a GPS antenna for military helmets. We had developed a unique conductive coating that we used to form a conformal GPS antenna.

The R&D effort was oriented around the use of a series of layers that created a ground plane material if needed, a dielectric layer, and the conductive antenna material. Polymer chemistry is used with years of experience in a marine environment.

The initiative will also use computer modeling to determine the size, shapes, dimensions, and geometrical designs to act as the patch which will be extensively researched. The stacking of antennas in multiple layers is a target for the investigation.

Additionally, 3D printing technology as well as an investigation into other possible exotic materials will provide a baseline for the effort of desired conformal antennas and various integrated antenna circuits which might include SATCOM, Scanning Radars with no moving parts.

This MAGCOM investigation will also address the methodology of connections/connectors of the layering antennas with minimal interference thus reducing costs because of weight and size reduction.

Advanced Materials

At our company, we utilize our advanced material development and formulation in every project. This makes us the experts in facilities that are similar to our clients, such as:

  • DOD
  • Private Shipyards
  • Marine Engineering Firms
  • Computer Infrastructure
  • Architecture and Engineering Companies/Builders

Coatings and Corrosion Control and Failure Analysis

Our team has years of experience evaluating corrosion issues and developing anti-corrosion coatings for buildings and vehicles. We’ve done work for a variety of commercial facilities and vessels for small enterprises. Additionally, we provided anti-corrosion solutions for US Navy ships and boats as well as the Capitol Building Dome in Washington D.C.

Havana Syndrome

Havana Syndrome is damage to the nerves and synapses in the body. It is caused by a directed energy weapon, most likely directed high-energy microwaves. With high confidence, the company seeks to remedy this high-tech problem that our world is facing today.

Power Grid Assessment and Hardening

We do assessments for threats to power grid substations. Our team electrical engineering team has worked with the US Navy and commercial power companies on how to harden their facilities and systems to withstand battle/cyber damage or intrusion. We evaluate commercial installations to determine if the power grid can support the installation.

Our team has worked with grid groups to protect power stations and switching stations in other countries. Additionally, we help encourage protection against directed energy weapon threats.

Fuel Farms on Commercial and Military Facilities

The DOD and commercial aviation community also face various threats, including cyber-attacks, and electromagnetic interferences, electromagnetic pulses, and directed energy weapons. The directed energy weapons could shut down the systems that allow jet fuel movement from the storage to the loading of airplanes.

These pumping stations and transferring computers, valves, and piping are operated by computer systems that are at high risk of being compromised. Hardening with the same methods is a critical infrastructure process to make sure the warfighter and commercial aviation are still able to complete missions and transfer passengers.

High Temperature Insulated Bus Pipe for Facilities

We have a working relationship with Moser Glaser on using their product for commercial facilities. The product replaces the power cable with an insulated bus bar, which has a better survival rating. For wall and floor penetrations, we have a working relationship with MCT Brattberg, which maintains the integrity of the facility.

Key Experience

Our knowledge and experience with paint and coatings include the development of RF shielding material coatings to provide shielding effectiveness across a broad range of frequencies. These materials are already designed, tested, and installed within command and control facilities and small naval craft, embedded in ballistic panels, and used as a coating on portable shelters.

Our coatings are highly effective in GHz and other frequencies (TR Level 9 -10). The existing baseline RF Coating technology is TRL level 9-10.

Our staff and installers have successfully performed the installations on Navy, Agency, DOD, and other platforms and facilities with reduced costs compared to foil and other shielding techniques. The incorporation of the magnetic shielding materials into layers of the new coating system will comply with EMP electromagnetic protection requirements.

We also possess installation techniques and a developed skill set that allow us to offer a robust solution for rapid technology insertion. These techniques and skills include:

  • Grounding Attachments, 100dB Doors, and Filters
  • Filter Power Supplies
  • Application of Solutions
  • Quick Repair
  • Use of Special Resins for Toughness and Hardness Requirements
